Josephine Clark (age 1)

Our daughter Josephine's 1st birthday is next Wednesday!.  When we were preparing to go home on October 30th, the doctor ordered an x-ray of Josephine's stomach as it was distended and she had yet to have a bowel movement .  When the results of the x-ray come back our world was forever changed.  Josephine was transported to Emanuel Hospital via ambulance to have surgery for what we were told was a Meconium Ilieus.  We were told that there was a possiblity of Cystic Fibrosis, but since there wasn't any history in either family, we didn't think that it could happen to us.  Surgery went well, and she recovered quickly.  On November 7 , 2008 we got the results of Josephine's newborn screening .  She did indeed have CF.

The last year has been tough.  But, Josephine is the sweetest, happiest, fun-loving (almost) one year old I have ever met.  Her smile just lights up the room.  I feel so incredibly blessed to be her mother.  I KNOW she will do great things in her life.  The determination to succeed is already shining bright.  Her first gift from her Grandpa was a Barbie fishing rod, at 6 days old!

Again, thank you for bringing awareness to CF!

God Bless
